Automatically corrected diagnostic quizzes/self tests

  • Students can monitor their level of understanding and receive immediate, targeted feedback.

Automatically graded quizzes

  • You can set a variety of questions for automatic marking and return of results and feedback to students.
  • The quiz can be taken independent of time and/or place.

Media incorporated into questions, tasks (e.g. images, audio)

  • Tasks can be more authentic (i.e. realistic).
  • Multiple media presentation can better cater for differences in individual learning styles, or preferences.

Electronic submission of assessment tasks (assignments, exam questions etc.)

  • Quick turnaround times are possible.
  • You have an electronic tracking record.
  • You can provide general and individual feedback efficiently.
  • Submissions can be media-rich.

Online survey (anonymous), e.g. about attitudes, opinions etc.

  • You can automatically collate, process and report on data.

Asynchronous (non real time) discussion

  • The text record allows you to assess participation objectively.
  • You can use the text record as the basis for an assessment task
  • The discussion tool(s) can be used for assessable group work.

Questions database

  • This makes searching, selecting and editing questions for an assessment task easier.
  • Questions can be reused for a number of different assessments.
  • You can deliver ‘unique' assessments to individual students, through random question selection from the database.

Management tools

Grade Book tool

  • Automatically enters results for electronically handled assessment tasks.
  • It can be linked/integrated with other electronic records.
  • It will generate statistics.
  • It's a record which can be shared with other teaching staff.

Tracking/progress tools

  • You have a record from submission through to return to students.
  • You can monitor individual student progress.

Selective release tools

  • This gives you control over when, under what circumstances, and to whom assessment tasks are released.

Publishing tool

  • You can provide students with examples of assessed work, and hence expectations.
  • You can release submissions for peer assessment.

Statistical presentation and reporting tools

  • Question items can be analysed for their assessment value.
  • You can analyse and report on student performance.

Collaborative tools

  • You can assign students to groups to work collaboratively on assessment tasks
